Koi (鯉)

Decorative Japanese fish, derived from the common carp and selected since the Edo period for its vivid colors; a symbol of beauty, perseverance, and vital energy in Japanese culture.

The Japanese pond is inspired by the symbolism of Japanese gardens, where water lilies are the symbol of purity and calm, and the koi embodies courage and life energy in motion. The digital surface of the lake has two interdependent behaviors: the water lilies retreat at the approach of visitors, and the koi is attracted to movement. Sensors detect the steps and direction of each visitor.
